Andrés Sabella Gálvez International Airport — Antofagasta, Chile

Andrés Sabella Gálvez International Airport, better known by its code ANF, serves Antofagasta on Chile's northern coast from a single runway set 455 feet above the Pacific. The field opened in the 1950s under the name Cerro Moreno, a label locals and pilots still use interchangeably with the airport's official title, and it kept that identity until 1992, when authorities renamed it for Andrés Sabella Gálvez, a writer and engineer born in the city. Sitting at the edge of the Atacama Desert, ANF functions as the aerial gateway to one of the world's most productive copper-mining regions; crews and equipment bound for inland operations routinely pass through its terminal before continuing overland. Despite handling that steady stream of business travel tied to mining, the airport gets by with just one runway, a reminder of how much traffic a single strip can absorb when demand concentrates on a handful of daily jet departures. Antofagasta's desert climate keeps weather delays rare, helping ANF maintain a dependable schedule for both passengers and regional cargo.
