Karpathos Airport — Karpathos Island, Greece

Karpathos Airport, coded AOK, occupies the southern tip of Karpathos Island in Greece's Dodecanese chain, sitting 66 feet above sea level. Its lone runway stretches close enough to the shoreline that arriving aircraft pass low over the water on final approach. As a medium airport, AOK carries most of the seasonal tourist traffic that reaches Karpathos directly, rather than passengers connecting through larger islands first. The Dodecanese island group sits in the southeastern Aegean Sea, and Karpathos itself lies between the better-known islands of Rhodes and Crete. Flight schedules here concentrate heavily around the summer tourist season, tapering off considerably once the crowds head home.
