Ayers Rock Connellan Airport — Yulara, Australia

Ayers Rock Connellan Airport serves Yulara, the small resort town built specifically to support tourism in Australia's Northern Territory outback. Its name honors Ayers Rock, also known as Uluru, the sandstone formation that draws visitors to this remote part of central Australia. AYQ sits 1,626 feet above sea level, and its single runway can accommodate narrow-body jets despite the airport's isolated desert location. The nearest major airport, Alice Springs, lies about 334 kilometers away, while Coober Pedy and Forrest airports sit far further out at 566 and 688 kilometers respectively. Such vast gaps between airports are the norm across the outback, where entire airfields can sit hundreds of kilometers from their nearest neighbor.
