Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Bauchi State International Airport — Bauchi, Nigeria

Nigeria's Bauchi State honors its namesake through Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Bauchi State International Airport, coded BCU, serving Bauchi, the state capital in the country's northeast. Ground elevation here is 1,965 feet, and the airport operates with a single runway. Its name recognizes Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Nigeria's first Prime Minister after independence, a choice that reflects his lasting significance in the nation's political history. BCU connects Bauchi to Abuja, Lagos, and other Nigerian cities, supporting both government travel and general commercial demand from across the state. Carrying international status supports Bauchi State's broader development goals, even though the single-runway layout keeps day-to-day operations on a more modest scale than Nigeria's largest hubs in Lagos and Abuja. Bauchi State is also home to Yankari National Park, one of Nigeria's best-known wildlife reserves, giving the airport occasional relevance for park-bound visitors alongside its main, ongoing function of serving government and commercial travel across the wider state.
