Soummam–Abane Ramdane Airport — Béjaïa, Algeria

Béjaïa's Soummam–Abane Ramdane Airport sits on Algeria's Mediterranean coast at a mere 20 feet of elevation, operating a single runway that handles domestic routes to Algiers along with seasonal international service. Its name honors Abane Ramdane, a key strategist of the Algerian War of Independence, and recalls the nearby Soummam Valley, where FLN leaders held a pivotal 1956 congress that helped shape the independence movement's structure. Béjaïa itself traces its roots to the Roman settlement of Saldae, later flourishing as a medieval Mediterranean trading port under a succession of ruling dynasties. Modern Béjaïa functions as a significant port and industrial center on Algeria's northeastern coast, and the airport supports business travel tied to the region's petrochemical industry alongside a growing seasonal tourism trade centered on the nearby Kabylie mountains and coastline. Algiers remains the primary gateway for most international travelers heading to this part of Algeria, though direct flights to France also serve the sizable Algerian diaspora community based there.
