Darbhanga Airport — Darbhanga, India

The code DBR belongs to Darbhanga Airport in Bihar, India, an airport that sat largely dormant for decades before reopening to scheduled civilian flights around 2020 under India's regional connectivity push. Darbhanga is the cultural heart of the Mithila region, an area with a large population that had long been underserved by air travel despite heavy demand, particularly from migrant workers commuting to major Indian cities for employment. Since resuming operations, DBR has seen strong passenger growth as residents embraced faster alternatives to lengthy train journeys to Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore. The airport's revival is often cited as an example of how reopening underused regional airstrips can unlock significant local demand in densely populated parts of India.
