Josiah Tungamirai Air Force Base — Gweru, Zimbabwe

GWE is Josiah Tungamirai Air Force Base, located in Gweru, Zimbabwe's fifth-largest city, situated roughly midway between Harare and Bulawayo. Named after a former commander of the Zimbabwe Air Force, the base serves as a key military aviation training and operations center for the country, historically hosting the Zimbabwe Air Force's training school. While primarily military, GWE has carried civilian aviation significance for Gweru as a transport link, given the city's role as an industrial and agricultural center in the Midlands Province. Gweru's economy centers on manufacturing, ranching, and its position along Zimbabwe's main transport corridor connecting the country's two largest cities.
