Jalal Talabani International Airport — Sulaymaniyah, Iraq

ISU is Sulaymaniyah International Airport, serving Sulaymaniyah, a major city in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The airport opened in 2005, providing an important gateway for the culturally distinct Kurdish region separate from Baghdad's air traffic, and it has grown to support both domestic Iraqi routes and international connections to destinations across the Middle East and Europe. Sulaymaniyah itself is known as a cultural and intellectual center within Iraqi Kurdistan, and ISU has played a role in the region's relative economic development and increased foreign investment compared to other parts of Iraq. The airport serves business travelers, the Kurdish diaspora returning to visit family, and a growing number of travelers interested in the region's mountainous landscapes and archaeological sites.
