Kostanay International Airport — Kostanay, Kazakhstan

KSN connects Kostanay, a city near Kazakhstan's northern border with Russia, to Astana, Almaty, and other domestic points across this vast Central Asian nation. The surrounding Kostanay region ranks among Kazakhstan's most productive grain-growing areas, and the flat steppe stretching in every direction from the airport reflects an economy still heavily anchored in wheat cultivation and related agribusiness. Kostanay's population includes a substantial ethnic Russian community, a legacy of Soviet-era settlement patterns and the Virgin Lands campaign that pushed large-scale farming into northern Kazakhstan during the 1950s. The airport itself remains a modest regional facility rather than a major international hub, primarily supporting domestic connections and occasional flights toward nearby Russian cities across the border. Winters here run long and severe, shaping both agricultural life in the region and the operational demands placed on ground crews and aircraft using KSN.
