Kittilä International Airport — Kittilä, Finland

KTT lies above the Arctic Circle in Finnish Lapland, and its passenger numbers swing dramatically with the seasons, quiet through much of the year before surging each winter as charter flights from the United Kingdom and elsewhere in Europe deliver skiers and aurora chasers to the nearby Levi resort. Levi itself ranks among the Nordic region's most popular ski destinations today, and its proximity to Kittila has made this small airport disproportionately busy relative to the sparse population of the surrounding municipality. Summer brings a different rhythm entirely, with near-continuous daylight under the midnight sun drawing hikers and travelers interested in Sami culture and wilderness trekking through Lapland's forests and fells. Reindeer are a common sight near the runway approach, underscoring how close this facility sits to genuine Arctic wilderness. Winter operations demand serious cold-weather expertise from ground staff at KTT.
