Monte Dourado - Serra do Areão Airport — Almeirim, Brazil

MEU serves Monte Dourado, an airport officially named for Serra do Areão, located near Almeirim in Pará state, Brazil, deep in the Amazon region. The airport was originally developed to support the Jari Project, an ambitious mid-twentieth-century industrial venture involving pulp, cellulose, and mining operations founded by American businessman Daniel Ludwig in the Amazon basin. MEU continues to serve the Monte Dourado company town and surrounding Jari operations, handling small aircraft carrying workers, supplies, and occasional cargo tied to forestry and mineral extraction in this remote riverine part of the Amazon. Given the region's limited road access, air transport via MEU remains one of the few reliable ways to reach this isolated industrial community.
