Rashtrakavi Kuvempu Airport — Shimoga, India

Rashtrakavi Kuvempu Airport (RQY) serves Shivamogga, a city in the Indian state of Karnataka named in honor of the celebrated Kannada poet Kuvempu. The airport represents a relatively recent addition to regional aviation infrastructure, aimed at improving connectivity for Shivamogga and the surrounding Malnad region, known for its coffee plantations and proximity to the Western Ghats. RQY offers domestic flights linking the city to Bengaluru and other Karnataka destinations, supporting local business and reducing dependence on lengthy road travel through hilly terrain. The airport's development reflects broader efforts under India's regional connectivity schemes to expand air access to smaller cities. RQY has opened new opportunities for trade and tourism in the Malnad area.
