Tromsø Airport — Tromsø, Norway

TOS, also called Tromso Langnes Airport, sits on a peninsula just outside Tromso, a city nearly 350 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle that markets itself as a capital of the Arctic. Long polar nights from late November into January bring near-total darkness but ideal conditions for viewing the aurora borealis, driving strong winter charter traffic. Conversely, the midnight sun keeps the sky bright around the clock through much of the summer, drawing a different set of visitors interested in hiking, fjord cruises, and whale watching. Tromso is home to the world's northernmost university, UiT The Arctic University of Norway, along with a fishing and research economy that predates the tourism boom by generations. Wideroe and Norwegian both operate substantial schedules here, connecting Tromso to Oslo and to smaller communities scattered across Norway's far north.
