Payerne Air Base
VIP is the identifier for Payerne Air Base, a Swiss Air Force installation located in the canton of Vaud, Switzerland. Unlike civilian airports, Payerne functions as military infrastructure, hosting fighter squadrons, training operations, and periodically serving as a venue for Switzerland's air force demonstrations and airshows. The base has long played a central role in Swiss national defense aviation, supporting aircraft such as the F/A-18 Hornet within the Swiss Air Force fleet. Payerne is not open to scheduled commercial air traffic, and VIP designates this military use rather than passenger service. The surrounding town of Payerne is otherwise known for its medieval abbey and agricultural setting in the Swiss plateau region.
