Biju Patnaik International Airport — Bhubaneswar, India

Biju Patnaik International Airport carries the code BBI and anchors air travel for Bhubaneswar, the capital of the Indian state of Odisha. The field lies 138 feet above sea level, with two runways in operation that let it manage a steady flow of domestic flights alongside a smaller slate of international routes. Its full name honors Biju Patnaik, a former Chief Minister of Odisha who trained as a pilot and is remembered for flying a rescue mission for Indonesian independence leaders back in 1947. Bhubaneswar counts among India's early planned cities, laid out in the 1950s, and BBI has expanded in step with it, now linking the state to Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, and other major Indian centers. Cargo handling, general aviation, and a growing roster of scheduled carriers all pass through this two-runway facility, and terminal capacity keeps being added as passenger numbers from Odisha continue climbing year after year.
