Jacinto Lara International Airport — Barquisimeto, Venezuela

Jacinto Lara International Airport, coded BRM, serves Barquisimeto, the capital of Lara state in western Venezuela. The airport takes its name from Jacinto Lara, a general who fought alongside Simón Bolívar during Venezuela's wars of independence in the early nineteenth century. At 2,042 feet in elevation, the terminal leans on one runway for its role as a regional hub linking Barquisimeto to Caracas and other Venezuelan cities. Barquisimeto is known as Venezuela's music capital and sits at the center of an agricultural region noted for its vineyards, a relatively unusual feature in a tropical country better known for coffee and cacao. BRM handles both passenger and cargo traffic tied to this agricultural economy, alongside the steady domestic travel demand generated by Barquisimeto's standing as one of Venezuela's larger metropolitan areas, even as the country's broader aviation sector has contracted in recent years amid economic troubles that have grounded several once-familiar domestic carriers.
