Batticaloa International Airport — Batticaloa, Sri Lanka

Batticaloa International Airport, coded BTC, serves the city of Batticaloa on Sri Lanka's eastern coast, facing the Bay of Bengal. The field rises a modest 20 feet above the shoreline, and a lone runway covers all scheduled movements. Despite carrying "International" in its name, BTC primarily handles domestic flights connecting Batticaloa to Colombo, with air traffic considerably lighter than at Sri Lanka's main international gateway near the capital. The airport gives residents and visitors on the east coast a faster alternative to the long overland journey across the island, particularly useful given the region's road and rail infrastructure.
