Nizhny Novgorod / Strigino International Airport — Nizhny Novgorod, Russia

GOJ serves Nizhny Novgorod, a major city at the confluence of the Volga and Oka rivers that spent much of the Soviet era as a closed city named Gorky, off-limits to foreigners because of its concentration of defense and automotive manufacturing. The airport, commonly known by its Strigino location, underwent substantial renovation ahead of Russia hosting the 2018 FIFA World Cup, when Nizhny Novgorod served as one of the tournament's host cities and needed modernized facilities for international visitors. Today it connects the city, one of Russia's largest by population, to Moscow, other domestic destinations, and a smaller number of international points. The surrounding region remains closely tied to heavy industry and the automotive sector, providing consistent corporate travel demand alongside its role supporting the city's historic Kremlin and river-trade heritage.
