Huai'an Lianshui Airport — Huai'an, China

Serving Jiangsu province's Huai'an, a city whose historical claim to fame includes being the birthplace of former Chinese premier Zhou Enlai, HIA provides regional air access to an area more historically tied to the Grand Canal trade route than to modern aviation. Huai'an sits along that centuries-old waterway, once one of imperial China's most vital arteries for moving grain and goods between the north and south, and the city's museums and preserved canal-side districts still reflect that mercantile past. The airport itself remains modest by Chinese standards, handling primarily domestic routes to regional hubs like Shanghai and Beijing rather than significant international traffic. Local officials have promoted the Zhou Enlai memorial sites as a draw for domestic heritage tourism, adding a modest but steady stream of visitors to what is otherwise a workaday regional airfield serving the surrounding agricultural and manufacturing economy.
