Izumo Enmusubi Airport — Izumo, Japan

IZO is Izumo Enmusubi Airport, serving the city of Izumo in Shimane Prefecture, Japan, on the western coast of Honshu facing the Sea of Japan. The airport's name references Izumo Taisha, one of Japan's oldest and most important Shinto shrines, closely associated with matchmaking and relationships, or 'enmusubi.' IZO connects Izumo to Tokyo's Haneda Airport and other domestic points, serving pilgrims and tourists visiting the shrine as well as residents of a relatively rural part of Japan not served by shinkansen bullet train lines. The airport plays an outsized role in regional accessibility given Shimane's limited high-speed rail connectivity compared to much of the rest of Japan.
