Oki Global Geopark Airport — Okinoshima, Japan

Oki Global Geopark Airport, coded OKI, serves the Oki Islands off the coast of Shimane Prefecture in Japan, an archipelago recognized by UNESCO for its distinctive geological formations, volcanic history, and unique ecosystem. The airport's name reflects this Global Geopark designation, highlighting the islands' significance for geological tourism, hiking, and nature-based travel. OKI connects the Oki Islands to Osaka and Izumo, supporting a tourism industry centered on the archipelago's dramatic coastal cliffs, ancient forests, and traditional fishing villages. The islands also carry historical significance as a place of exile for Japanese emperors in earlier centuries. Given the islands' relative isolation, Oki Global Geopark Airport plays an essential role alongside ferry services in maintaining connectivity for residents and geopark visitors alike.
