Kunming Changshui International Airport — Kunming, China

KMG replaced the old Wujiaba airfield in 2012, moving Kunming's air traffic to a much larger site northeast of the city built to handle the rapid growth in demand across southwestern China. Wujiaba itself held historical weight as a wartime staging point for the Flying Tigers and for cargo flown over the Himalayas along the perilous Hump route supplying China during the Second World War. Kunming has long been nicknamed the City of Eternal Spring for its mild, temperate climate at high elevation, and the surrounding Yunnan province draws travelers toward the karst pillars of the Stone Forest, the old town of Lijiang, and the ethnically diverse communities scattered across the province's mountains. As a major hub for regional carriers, KMG increasingly functions as China's principal gateway to Southeast Asia, offering connections to Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand alongside domestic routes to Beijing, Shanghai, and other major Chinese cities.
