Katowice Wojciech Korfanty International Airport — Katowice, Poland

KTW takes its formal name from Wojciech Korfanty, a Polish and Silesian political leader remembered for championing the region's interests in the early twentieth century, and it sits in Pyrzowice village north of the city it primarily serves. Katowice itself anchors Upper Silesia, a historically coal-mining and industrial region now home to a dense conurbation of cities collectively holding millions of residents, giving the airport a large catchment area despite Katowice's own population being comparatively modest. Low-cost carriers transformed KTW over recent decades, turning what had been a fairly quiet regional field into one of Poland's busier airports, with dense route networks reaching across Western Europe and beyond. Cargo operations have grown alongside passenger traffic, benefiting from Upper Silesia's manufacturing base and strong road and rail connectivity. Skiers heading toward the nearby Beskid Mountains and Slovak resorts also make regular use of KTW's convenient regional position.
