Aden Adde International Airport — Mogadishu, Somalia

Aden Adde International Airport (MGQ) sits on the coast of Mogadishu, Somalia's capital, and is named for Aden Abdullah Osman Daar, known as Aden Adde, who served as the country's first president after independence. Decades of conflict in Somalia have made the airport a uniquely secured facility, with much of its perimeter historically incorporated into a fortified compound that has also housed African Union peacekeeping forces, diplomatic missions, and humanitarian organizations operating in the country. Despite the security challenges surrounding it, MGQ has functioned continuously as Somalia's principal air link to the outside world, supporting flights to neighboring East African nations, the Gulf, and beyond. The airport plays an outsized logistical role for aid organizations delivering humanitarian assistance across a country that has faced repeated famine and displacement crises. Commercial carriers including Turkish Airlines and regional African airlines have gradually expanded service to MGQ in recent years.
