Gregorio Luperon International Airport — Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

Gregorio Luperon International Airport (POP) serves Puerto Plata on the Dominican Republic's north coast, a major gateway for tourists visiting the Amber Coast's beach resorts, including Playa Dorada and Cabarete. POP handles substantial international traffic from North America and Europe, particularly charter and low-cost carriers serving the all-inclusive resort industry that dominates the local economy. The airport is named after Gregorio Luperón, a national hero who fought for Dominican independence from Spain in the 19th century. POP's runway and terminal capacity have been expanded over the years to accommodate growing tourist arrivals, making it one of the busier international airports in the Dominican Republic outside Punta Cana and Santo Domingo.
