Pavlodar International Airport — Pavlodar, Kazakhstan

Pavlodar International Airport, designated PWQ, serves Pavlodar, an industrial city in northeastern Kazakhstan positioned along the Irtysh River not far from the Russian border. The surrounding region built its economy on aluminum smelting, petrochemicals, and heavy manufacturing during the Soviet period, and the airport's infrastructure still carries traces of that era even as Kazakhstan has modernized its aviation network since independence. PWQ primarily handles domestic connections to Almaty and the capital Astana, alongside a smaller number of regional international routes reflecting Pavlodar's trade ties within Central Asia. The Irtysh River itself has long been a transport and industrial artery for the city, and the airport complements that older infrastructure by linking Pavlodar's factories and institutions to the rest of the country far more quickly than rail or road travel allows. Air traffic through PWQ remains modest in scale compared with Kazakhstan's larger southern cities.
