Siglufjörður Airport — Siglufjörður, Iceland

Siglufjordur Airport, identified by the code SIJ, serves the remote fishing town of Siglufjordur on Iceland's northern coast. Nestled among steep fjord mountains, this small airport has historically supported limited domestic flights and general aviation for a town once considered the herring fishing capital of the North Atlantic. Siglufjordur's dramatic landscape, museums dedicated to its herring boom history, and proximity to scenic hiking routes attract visitors seeking Iceland's quieter northern reaches. Due to the challenging terrain and weather typical of Icelandic fjords, SIJ operates on a modest scale, primarily accommodating small aircraft rather than regular scheduled commercial service, reflecting the isolated character of this Arctic coastal community.
