Shijiazhuang Zhengding International Airport — Shijiazhuang, China

Shijiazhuang Zhengding International Airport, known by the code SJW, serves the Hebei provincial capital from a site in Zhengding County north of the city center. Rather than competing head-on with the enormous passenger hubs in nearby Beijing and Tianjin, SJW has carved out a niche as a busy logistics and low-cost carrier base, handling significant air cargo volumes tied to the region's manufacturing economy. Budget airlines have used it as a springboard for expanding domestic route networks, taking advantage of lower operating costs than the capital's congested airspace allows. The airport has also functioned periodically as an overflow and diversion point for Beijing-bound traffic. Shijiazhuang itself, though less internationally known than China's coastal metropolises, is a major industrial and pharmaceutical manufacturing center, and the airport's busy cargo apron reflects that role. Continued terminal investment aims to raise passenger capacity as regional air travel demand climbs.
