Svolvær Airport, Helle — Svolvær, Norway

Svolvær Airport, Helle (SVJ), sits within the dramatic Lofoten Islands of northern Norway, renowned for jagged peaks rising directly from the sea and vibrant fishing villages. The airport serves Svolvær, the administrative center of the Lofoten archipelago, connecting travelers to Bodø and onward to Oslo via regional Norwegian carriers. Its short runway, built on reclaimed land, demands precise pilot skill given the surrounding mountains and often unpredictable coastal weather. SVJ supports both a growing tourism industry drawn by Lofoten's scenery, hiking, and Northern Lights viewing, and the local fishing economy that has defined the islands for centuries. Despite its remote setting, the airport remains a well-used gateway to one of Norway's most photographed regions.
