Astrakhan Narimanovo Boris M. Kustodiev International Airport — Astrakhan, Russia

ASF identifies Astrakhan Narimanovo Airport, formally named after the painter Boris Kustodiev, who was born in the city. Astrakhan sits near the delta where the Volga River empties into the Caspian Sea, within a low-lying region known as the Caspian Depression. The field itself rests 65 feet below sea level, making it one of the lowest-elevation airports in Russia, a direct result of this unusual geography. ASF runs two runways and handles both passenger and cargo traffic for the surrounding Astrakhan Oblast. The city has long been associated with fishing, caviar production, and trade routes linking Russia to the wider Caspian region, including Kazakhstan, Iran, and beyond. As a mid-sized international airport, ASF connects Astrakhan to Moscow and other major Russian cities, plus a handful of routes toward Central Asia and the Caucasus. Its location makes it a practical stop for travelers and cargo moving along the lower Volga corridor, an area shaped as much by rivers and inland sea as by any single city within it.
