Makhachkala Uytash International Airport — Makhachkala, Russia

Makhachkala Uytash International Airport (MCX) serves Makhachkala, the capital of Russia's Dagestan republic, on the western shore of the Caspian Sea. As a regional gateway in the North Caucasus, the airport handles domestic connections to Moscow and other Russian cities alongside a smaller number of international routes. Dagestan's mountainous terrain and Caspian coastline give the surrounding region a distinct culture within Russia, home to numerous ethnic groups and languages, and MCX functions as the main air link connecting this area to the rest of the country. The airport drew international attention in late 2023 when a large crowd gathered on the airfield amid tensions linked to a regional conflict, an incident that briefly halted operations and drew widespread media coverage. Uytash has since continued operating as Dagestan's principal air transport hub, supporting both passenger travel and cargo movement for the republic's economy.
