Gabala International Airport — Gabala, Azerbaijan

Gabala International Airport (GBB) opened to serve the resort town of Gabala in northern Azerbaijan, an area promoted for its forested foothills, lakes, and growing tourism infrastructure at the base of the Caucasus Mountains. Despite the international designation, GBB has historically operated with a limited schedule, hosting charter and seasonal flights tied to tourism promotion efforts and occasional special events rather than dense year-round commercial traffic. The airport's modern terminal was built with capacity well beyond typical regional demand, reflecting Azerbaijan's broader strategy of developing Gabala as an alternative destination to Baku for both domestic and foreign visitors seeking mountain scenery, golf courses, and outdoor recreation away from the capital.
