Porto Seguro International Airport — Porto Seguro, Brazil

Porto Seguro International Airport, coded BPS, serves Porto Seguro in the southern part of Bahia state, Brazil, a city widely regarded as the site where Portuguese explorer Pedro Álvares Cabral first landed in 1500. Sitting at 169 feet above sea level, a single runway accommodates seasonal surges of tourist traffic drawn to the region's beaches and colonial history. BPS sees its heaviest schedules during Brazilian summer and national holiday periods, when domestic carriers add flights connecting Porto Seguro to São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and other major cities across the country. Beyond its historical associations, the area draws visitors for its coral reefs and coastal resorts stretching south toward Arraial d'Ajuda and Trancoso. The airport's traffic reflects this strongly seasonal, leisure-driven pattern rather than steady year-round business demand. Ground transport from the terminal reaches the historic quarter within minutes, a convenience that matters most during the crowded peak weeks around New Year and Carnival, when hotel rates and flight fares both climb sharply.
