Ciudad Obregón International Airport — Ciudad Obregón, Mexico

Ciudad Obregón International Airport anchors air travel for one of Mexico's most productive agricultural zones, the Yaqui Valley in southern Sonora, where irrigated wheat fields once served as a testing ground for the high-yield crop breeding that plant scientist Norman Borlaug pioneered during the mid-twentieth-century Green Revolution. CEN links this farming and agribusiness hub to Mexico City, Hermosillo, and other regional centers, supporting the seed companies, grain exporters, and food-processing firms that dominate the local economy. The surrounding desert landscape depends heavily on irrigation from the Álvaro Obregón Dam, and the airport's traffic follows the seasonal rhythms of the wheat and vegetable harvests that define this stretch of northwestern Mexico.
