Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport — Zhengzhou, China

Zhengzhou's airport has grown into one of China's most important air-cargo nodes largely on the strength of electronics manufacturing, since sprawling factory complexes on the city's outskirts assemble a substantial share of the world's smartphones and ship much of that output through Xinzheng rather than by sea. A dedicated air-cargo partnership with the Luxembourg carrier Cargolux, along with the surrounding Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone, has turned the field into a logistics center integrating air, rail, and highway freight for goods moving across China and onward to Europe. Passenger traffic has grown just as quickly, serving Henan province, one of China's most populous provinces and a historic cradle of Chinese civilization along the Yellow River. Zhengzhou itself mixes ancient history, including the nearby Shaolin Temple, with the fast-paced industrial growth typical of interior Chinese cities in recent decades, and the airport's expansion has tracked that growth closely, adding runways and terminal capacity to keep pace with both passenger and freighter demand.
