Itanagar Donyi Polo Hollongi Airport — Hollongi, India

HGI is the code for Itanagar Donyi Polo Hollongi Airport, a newer airport serving Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh in northeastern India. Named after Donyi Polo, the indigenous sun and moon worship tradition of the region, the airport was built to finally give the state capital direct air connectivity, since the area's mountainous terrain had long made travel difficult and previously relied on a nearby helicopter service. HGI represents a significant infrastructure milestone for one of India's more isolated northeastern states, opening up easier access for both government administration and tourism to this scenic Himalayan foothill region. Scheduled flights connect it to major Indian cities including Guwahati, Kolkata, and Delhi.
