Nador Al Aaroui International Airport — Al Aaroui, Morocco

Summer brings a surge of diaspora travelers back to Nador Al Aaroui Airport, as Moroccans working across Belgium, France, the Netherlands, and Spain return to the Rif region to visit family and spend their holidays near the Mediterranean coast. NDR serves Nador, a port city in northeastern Morocco not far from the Spanish-administered enclave of Melilla, and has grown steadily as low-cost European carriers added routes to match demand from this substantial expatriate community. The Rif mountains rising behind the coastal plain give the region a distinct geography and culture within Morocco, shaped by Berber traditions and a history of Spanish colonial influence that persists in local dialect and architecture. Fishing and small-scale trade with nearby Melilla have long supported the local economy, though smuggling and informal cross-border commerce have also played an outsized role. The airport's relatively modern terminal reflects investment aimed at capturing more of this seasonal and remittance-driven travel pattern.
