Lamezia Terme Sant'Eufemia International Airport — Lamezia Terme (CZ), Italy

SUF occupies a narrow stretch of Calabria where Italy's boot pinches to its slimmest point, close enough to both the Tyrrhenian and Ionian coasts that visitors can reach beaches on either sea within a short drive. The airport takes its formal name from Sant'Eufemia, a locality near Lamezia Terme, and functions as the principal air gateway to a region better known for rugged coastline and hill towns than for major cities. Summer charter traffic swells considerably as travelers head toward Tropea and other coastal resorts along Calabria's western shore. Rome and Milan remain the busiest year-round destinations from the airport, sparing residents of the region long drives or rail journeys to reach the rest of Italy. Calabria's economy has historically lagged behind Italy's north, and the airport plays an outsized role in linking the region to national and, increasingly, international tourism markets.
