Wuhan Tianhe International Airport — Wuhan (Huangpi), China

Wuhan Tianhe International Airport, coded WUH, lies in Huangpi District north of central Wuhan, the sprawling Hubei provincial capital that sits at the confluence of the Yangtze and Han rivers and has long billed itself as China's central transport crossroads. Opened in 1995 to replace an older military-linked field, the airport was substantially enlarged with a third terminal completed in 2017, giving it capacity to rank among the busier hubs in inland China and a base for China Southern Airlines and the regional carrier Hubei Airlines. A dedicated high-speed rail station links the terminal directly into the national network, reinforcing Wuhan's role as a logistics and manufacturing center for automobiles, optics and steel. WUH drew international attention in early 2020 when the city became the initial epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak, prompting an unprecedented, extended shutdown of the airport itself.
