Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport — Jasionka, Poland

Located a short drive north of Rzeszow in southeastern Poland, RZE grew for years primarily on the strength of low-cost European routes before taking on an outsized strategic role following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Sitting less than 60 miles from the Ukrainian border, the airport became a critical hub for humanitarian aid, military assistance, and the movement of foreign officials and journalists heading toward the conflict, with allied nations temporarily stationing air defense systems nearby to protect the surrounding region. RZE's passenger terminal, expanded substantially in the years before the war, continues to serve civilian travelers through carriers including Ryanair and Wizz Air connecting southeastern Poland with destinations across Western Europe. The broader Podkarpackie region around Rzeszow has also seen its aerospace manufacturing sector, sometimes called Poland's 'Aviation Valley,' expand alongside the airport's growing profile as both a commercial and logistical asset.
