Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport — Hangzhou, China

Home to the headquarters of Alibaba and just a short drive from the willow-lined shores of West Lake, HGH serves a city that has transformed from a historic imperial-era capital famous in classical poetry into one of China's leading technology and e-commerce centers. Hangzhou hosted the G20 summit in 2016, an event that spurred a wave of infrastructure investment including expansions to this very airport, reflecting the city's growing importance on the international stage. Zhejiang province's broader manufacturing and trading economy funnels considerable business traffic through the terminal, supplementing the steady tourist flow drawn to West Lake's UNESCO-listed scenery and nearby tea plantations producing the famed Longjing variety. High-speed rail now connects Hangzhou to Shanghai in well under an hour, giving the airport some competition on that particular route while international and longer domestic connections remain firmly in its own favor.
